I work in special education. My students are freshmen through seniors. I teach them math and science, as well as having a literacy center to help them. What makes my kids so special is that they are trying so hard during the pandemic. My students are working so hard in an environment with so many unknown factors at the moment. Some of my students have not been in person in school since 7th grade. We are working so hard on appropriate school behavior while also working on their classwork. Through all of this trauma and turmoil, my students have never lost their kindness. They are all struggling at the moment but they are some of the nicest students I have ever met. They are so kind and willing to help each other. They recognize they are a team and we work together to help everyone.
My Project
I teach math and science in a special education setting. When I came to my school, everything was bare. The biggest thing that I noticed was there are no calculators in the room to help my students. Everyone uses their phone, which causes some issues as they do more than just math. I have also included math posters to hang around the room so students can read prompts that can help them. I want them to be immersed in a math classroom filled with knowledge and calculators to help them learn, instead of a bare classroom with no calculators. They are finally back to school after at-home learning and they deserve a nice classroom while they try and handle in person again.
