Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are bright, imaginative, and resilient young people who face daily challenges both in and out of school. Many come to class carrying the weight of stress, anxiety, or personal struggles, but they also bring incredible creativity and curiosity. Our classroom is a safe space where they can express themselves, find calm, and discover their voices through art without having to be in art class.

For some, creating art is not just a hobby — it’s a way to process emotions and feel seen and valued.

I want to give them more opportunities to use art as a healthy outlet for self-expression and mental well-being.

This project aims to promote mental health and emotional wellness through art and creativity. With your support, we’ll build a calm, creative space with string lights. This will be a place where students can express feelings, manage stress, and build confidence through art-based activities.

I am requesting materials such as sketchbooks for reflective drawing and writing, marker sets, highlighters, pens and pencils for free expression, mindfulness art kits and coloring materials, weighted paper, and even candy to calm their minds, with storage bins to ensure the room is organized and inviting.

These resources will help create a peaceful corner in our classroom — a space where students can take a mindful break, work through emotions, and channel their energy into something positive and inspiring. Giving them an outlet to deal with the world's pressures in a safe space.

By combining creativity with mental health support, students will learn healthy coping strategies, build confidence and self-awareness, strengthen focus, patience, and resilience, and feel a sense of pride and belonging through art displays

Art gives students a voice when words aren’t enough. It’s a tool for healing, connection, and joy — something every child deserves access to.
