My Students

My Pre-K students are four and five-year-olds who come from high poverty or English as a second language homes. This year, my students are all learning virtually from home.

For most of my students, my classroom is their first school experience and they come with such an excitement for learning and trying new things, like working with puzzles, listening to a book, or painting.

I am privileged to watch them grow and develop skills in such a hands-on environment!

My Project

I am requesting dot paint, letter beads, magnifying glasses, craft sticks, skittles, hangers, stickers, and organization tubs.

Teaching math and science skills virtually takes creativity, when your students have very limited resources at home.

They will use the hanger to construct a balance scale to help teach the concept of heavier and lighter. The dot paint and skittles will be used to work on patterning and making numerals.

Having hands on materials at home, not only engages the students in learning, but also allows their parents to be involved in the process. They will continue to practice the skills, even after my virtual lesson. We will use the magnifying glasses to observe nature. We will use the colored sticks for STEM projects as the kids create their own bridges.
