This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a low-income school where my kindergarten students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom.

At our school site, 93% of our students are Hispanic, and over half of my students are EL learners.

These things may prevent my students from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, they work hard and are excited to learn and grow. I focus on their potential and growth. My goal is to inspire a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

My Project

Spring is around the corner and for Kindergarten students and that means learning about the life cycle of animals. What better way to do that than with the beloved ladybug!

With these ladybug kits, our students will be able to see the process right in their very own classroom.

The kits will also support STEM learning by introducing our students to entomology, life science and life cycles. The Ladybug Garden will allow them to observe the transition from larvae to ladybug.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
