This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Two autumns ago, my students broke ground and created a pollinator garden. The community has supported with donations, such as funding for plants, tools, gloves, and watering cans. It is time to add a wagon to help us transport the supplies to the garden.

Having a wagon will make it so much easier to move watering cans of water, tools, and supplies.

The students enjoy working in the garden. This will be its second summer. With two years of new plantings, we need to place markers in front of each plant so the students and community know the names of the plants that are growing.

It is like music to my ears when I hear students ask, "Are we going out today?", "Can we go out today?" Caring for the garden helps the students regulate their energy and emotions. Each individual plant in the garden was chosen because it is native to our region. They weathered the drought last summer very well. Despite that, we still move a lot of water from the classroom to the garden during the school year, and the collapsible wagon would be much more efficient.
