My Students

This year I have the privilege of working with two classes of 23 third graders who truly represent all that Washington, DC, has to offer. Though my school is located in Georgetown, only about 24% of our students are enrolled from within the boundary, with the rest being a dedicated bunch who travel up to an hour across DC to get to our school.

We are a diverse school with 44% black students, 16% Latino, 27% white, and 7% Asian.

Ten percent of students are English language learners, and one in five are economically disadvantaged. My students are the children of laborers, soldiers, diplomats, professors, other teachers, and more; and I could not be more excited to learn as much from them this year as I hope to teach.

My Project

My students and I have carefully picked out a selection of board games that will give them hands-on opportunities to work in a group and learn social-emotional cooperation skills in a fun and engaging week.

During the pandemic, students have had limited opportunities to play games in a group and to do so in a hands-on way.

Many of their social interactions are limited to the computer. As the cold weather and indoor recess months approach, I want them to have the opportunity to have fun and work together with the friendly competition of some board games!

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
