My Students

I am the librarian in a high poverty elementary school located in a rural area. I work with students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Classes rotate each day in and out of the library for forty minute periods. My goal is to help students develop a love for reading, a passion for books, and become lifelong readers and learners.

When students come to the library, they don't just check out books.

They use technology to conduct webquests and explore the world, listen to stories at a listening center, and work on word work skills to practice sight words and letter sounds.

My Project

STEM is the future. STEM activities allow students to plan, design, create, and revise to solve an existing problem. With these STEM kits, students will be able to design more environmentally friendly cars, homes, and bridges. Students are learning lots about our environment and how they can preserve it. Students can use these STEM kits to work to solve a real world problem by designing things that are more environmentally friendly. Through the STEM process, students will create a plan, build it, test it, and revise it to make necessary changes and design the most environmentally friendly item possible. With your support, I can provide my students with learning activities that will promote creativity and problem solving skills, essential to future careers.
