Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a K-5 elementary school in the inner city. My beautiful second graders live among high-density apartments and/or crowded neighborhoods. Students often share their bedrooms and spaces with siblings and other family members. However, school is their world where they feel safe and protected. It is a place where they have a sense of belonging. Each student has a desk and a seat to call his/her very own. My students love to learn and are curious about the world around them. They work hard, and deserved to be rewarded!

My Project

Everyone knows that basic reading skills should be accomplished by second grade. This is why exposing the world of books and reading to students at this age is so crucial. Due to COVID, many students previously had reduced schooling years and are unfortunately delayed with their academic growth. Now that we have returned to learning in the classroom, I would love to add more STEAM lessons. These books will be great additions.

Fortunately, this project will provide much needed new books.

I want my students to know that learning and reading books is a reward, something they "get" to do.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
