Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students in the special education classroom live in a rural area that values community and fellowship. My students are considered high-risk because of the low social-economic status of their families. Over 95% of the school’s student body qualify for free lunch. Families and students strive to support and encourage each other inside and outside of school. We continue to promote this philosophy in our classroom daily. I strive for a classroom environment that mirrors the value of our community.

Special Education requires specialized instructional strategies in a structured environment that supports and enhances their learning potential.

My Project

My students are in need of a new iPad and keyboard. We currently don't have enough iPads to keep up with my students. I have a lot of different students functioning on a lot of different levels. So that means I have a lot of different apps downloaded onto my iPads. With the number of apps that downloaded, the speed of the iPad lowers, depending on how much storage is available. My students would love an iPad with more storage to keep the iPad running fast!

It is important to remember that students with special needs are not students who are incapacitated or unable to learn; rather, they need differentiated instruction tailored to their distinctive learning abilities.

We have found that iPads are a wonderful motivator as well.

We do not have enough iPads in the classroom to have children work on the iPad as well as have other children work off the iPad for the iPad as a reinforcement. We need another iPad to help motivate all students!
