This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a tenth grade Criminology & Behavioral Sciences AVID elective course at a Title I school that is 100 percent free lunch. This class prepares students who are academically in the middle, the first to attend college in their family, and have the individual desire to attend a four-year university. More than three-quarters of our students come from low-income households and have chosen to be in CBS/AVID to further themselves as an individual in order to be successful in high school and pursue their college dreams.

My Project

We have studied the many different career opportunities that are in forensics, but our school lacks the funds to provide my class with hands-on and online activities to further deepen their knowledge. I feel that my students will be able to gain valuable experiences of what it is like to work as a forensics technician if they have resources such as microscopes and a CSI kit available to them.

Now that we are back in the classroom, having hands-on experience is important after a year of online learning.

They are excited to explore the many different fields in forensics and any opportunity that can be provided to them to deepen their understanding while increasing their skills in literary, science, and math and real world application is appreciated. I believe that these materials will also spark further excitement in their learning about the world of criminology.
