AVID means Advancement Via Individual Determination. That is the perfect word to describe my students and our program. We are a school who is in high need of financial support in order to continue to provide our students with the tools to be successful in school and in college. Within our school we have the AVID elective, and within that elective falls the Public & Human Services Academy/AVID, my kids. I say kids, because each and everyone of them are treated as if they are my own. Students in this Academy are the first to attend college and are interested in careers in Criminology, Education, and Social Services. Within this Academy students are taught life skills, educational skills, college goals and research, and are pushed to strive for their dreams and to never give up.
