Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Counting collections is a fantastic way to help my young students learn math while keeping them engaged. By physically handling and counting objects, children develop a concrete understanding of numbers and quantities. This hands-on activity makes abstract concepts more tangible, allowing students to see, touch, and manipulate items as they count.

It also encourages problem-solving and critical thinking as they group and organize their collections.

It is also a fun and interactive experience, often involving colorful and interesting objects that capture children's attention and curiosity. I want my students to build foundational math skills but also foster a positive attitude toward learning and exploration.

Students will benefit from these materials because they will have engaging and hands-on materials to gain number sense, collaborate with peers, and share their thinking with mathematical vocabulary. They will build number sense while grappling with quantities. The students will learn how to talk about numbers in a variety of ways. Students will participate in Counting Collections tasks to build their own understanding of quantities.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
