Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are attempting to learn physics without some of the basic supplies. Our "metric" rulers only have inches marked on them, causing the students to be constantly doing conversions. They also do not have any colors to differentiate the different forces in their labs.

My students are currently attending a continuation high school.

This type of school usually has a negative connotation, but it should not. These are all students who are taking their second chance to graduate and are using it. They are excited to be given a chance to make up their science credits and they are anxious to learn new concepts. This level of enthusiasm and motivation deserves proper equipment to work with.

My Project

With the "inch" sticks we have currently, students are having trouble calculating simple equations such as speed or velocity because they are constantly having to convert inches into meters. Without colors, most of the students are struggling to differentiate between the different types of forces acting upon a object. If we could use colored pencils to color code the forces, students we be able to focus their energy on understanding the concepts.

This donation will reaffirm the students' belief in themselves.

They have proved that they want to graduate and learn, but they need the supplies in order to do so. This donation will show them that they have the same opportunities as other high school students.
