Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Students at our school are walking into a revitalized environment and a new learning year. There are many exciting changes this year, and for my STEM classroom this includes a new focus on coding and programming.

Students have been creating and making for a whole year and are wanting to dig deeper into physical computing and robotics.

Students interested in engineering are craving more difficult challenges and desire the tools to execute! Passion for their community and school shine through everyday as BHS Panthers push their limits and reach new heights.

My Project

All of our students are immersed in technology everyday and do not realize the underlying concepts of computer programs or smart phone applications. In our classroom we want to make these advanced concepts accessible while also sparking the intrigue of a future engineers and scientists.

A small classroom set of Sphero robots will help students bring the idea of coding and programming into real life.

Students will first learn block coding to navigate Sphero through obstacles and eventually move onto studying Java Script and other programming languages. Having these robots is an effective hook to get these students deeply interested in computing and setting them on a rigorous and successful academic path.
