This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“Climb Every Mountain." Hi, I am fortunate to be the teacher of 25 of Los Angeles brightest and finest students second grade students. I need a laptop and printer so that there will not be any learning obstacles in my student’s way.

The students in my class live in the projects.

These second graders live in extreme poverty, and my goal is to try to expose them to as much as possible in their learning experiences. My classroom is in desperate need of a working computer and printer. With the budget crunch this year we have no extra money to buy technology for the classrooms. My students are an awesome group of kids that have varying learning styles, and I personally feel teachers should tap into all different learning styles to reach each individual student. I want to introduce and expose them to as much as I possibly can, but without a working computer my students are missing out on all the great things computers have to offer them.

My Project

Last year the district adopted a new math program that had an online component to it. My students have not been able to do the online component because we do not have computers. This has been a "mountain like" obstacle in their paths. These second graders are truly missing out on a great online math resource. I can use the laptop along with my document reader to expose the entire class to technology. It truly saddens me to see these wonderful students not be able to have access to such a valuable tool. My second grade students who live in the projects face challenges everyday just in their home lives. I want be able to offer them the most valuable education possible because they deserve it. A working laptop and printer in the classroom would open up endless possibilities for my students. A laptop would be a great resource for my students to learn basic typing skills, do online research, play interactive learning games, print and type final drafts of their writing pieces.
