The students I teach live near the projects located in South Central Los Angeles. These 3rd graders live in extreme poverty, and my goal is to try to expose them to as much as possible in their learning experiences. My school is a Title I school, and many of the children are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. However, that does not diminish their spunk or tenacity for learning. This has been a particularly rough year for my school. We were faced with serious budget cuts and unfortunately any hopes of integrating new technology in my classroom are out the window. My students have varying learning styles, and I personally feel teachers should tap into all different learning styles to reach each individual student. However these budget cuts have made my philosophy extremely hard to implement. Most of my young students are visual learners there is no interactive equipment in my classroom to support their learning.
