My Students

I am a third-grade teacher at a Title I school in Norfolk, VA.

My students live in an urban city and come from many different economic backgrounds.

My classroom consists of English language learners, gifted students, and students with disabilities. I have students of mixed religions and many different races.

My Project

Currently, our classroom has a VERY loved and old rug. I have had this rug since I started teaching 10 years ago. It has been a safe space for hundreds of students. Unfortunately it has also been a space for potty accidents, spills and bodily fluids. I would like to have a large rug for my students to gather on for various collaborative learning activities. This will include whole group reading lessons where students will talk to a partner or a group to make predictions and discuss vocabulary (from a safe distance, of course).

Additionally, students may use the carpet during classroom discourse.

This is where students will share their ideas and work together to come up with definitions to new vocabulary, discuss new concepts that are being introduced, and talk about literature.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
