This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My middle school Career and Tech students learn to use different technologies over the course of the school year. I introduce these technologies through challenges and projects to increase student engagement. My students learn to code, they program robots and compete in our Robolympics, they design 3D printed blind bag toys, and they create fabric circuits in preparation for using Arduino breadboards. Certain materials need to be replaced every year, such as PLA filament, paints, batteries, and thread. Other materials need to be replaced because, well, accidents happen.

The donations to this project will create opportunities for my students to use technology to bring their ideas to life.

Our 3D printer needs isopropyl alcohol to help maintain the printing surface. PLA filament is the most environmentally friendly printing material and allows the creation of detailed small-scale models. The primer and acrylic paints will allow students to add fine details to their printed toys. The felt, thread, batteries, and battery holders will allow students to design and create their own wearable circuits. The VEX IQ controllers replace ones that have been worn out due to overly-enthusiastic Robolympics competitors.

The supplies provided through this project will give each student the opportunity to showcase their personal interests in the creation of their own projects, which in turn helps them develop their technical skills.
