Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am part of the Career Technical Education Program in a high needs, low income, Title I school. Our students are primarily English Language Learners. Our school is made up of 70% ELL and 100% of them receive a free lunch and breakfast. Opening a new school in the middle of a pandemic has not been easy!

My school has been hit hard by COVID-19 because the grant money allotted for resources and supplies has been held up due to the pandemic.

That means that I have very limited supplies for my students. Additionally, the pandemic prohibits us from sharing, which means we need more supplies than ever before. I want these students to be proud of what they have created, to take ownership and be excited of their projects. I am working with them to learn and prepare them for higher education and to have a view of the Nevada workforce to have an advantage edge.

My Project

Often students had limited resources available to them at home. I want to be able to provide the best opportunity to be able and express themselves without hesitation and safely. I want to get my students excited to explore, but realizing the real risk, I want us all to be safe about it and provide a small snack for anyone of my students that might need it.

COVID created many different obstacles in making sure that we are all doing our part to stay safe during these times, now I want to make sure my students continue to stay safe.

Unfortunately since I am in a portable outside, I do not always have the fastest access for supplies, much less since we clean after every class period. While my school goes above and beyond to take care of our safety needs, I want to do my part in helping with the high demand and getting my own supplies for my students. While these supplies might seem like an abundance I have coordinated with other teachers at my school to help us share these supplies for our classes.
