My Project

After teaching sixth grade for many years, I am excited and honored to begin a new journey in first grade with 17 bright, curious, and eager young learners. While the grade level is changing, my goal remains the same: to create a classroom where every child feels safe, loved, included, and excited to learn each day.

For many first graders, school becomes a second home.

I want my classroom to be a warm and welcoming environment where students can grow into confident readers, writers, mathematicians, and kind classmates. This project will help create a calm, engaging space that supports both academic learning and social-emotional growth.

One of the most important items is a large classroom rug that will become the heart of our classroom community. It will be the place where students gather for morning meetings, read-alouds, lessons, conversations, and shared learning experiences. A classroom rug creates connection, comfort, and togetherness for young learners.

This project will also provide cozy book nooks and flexible seating options that accommodate the needs of all learners. Flexible seating helps students feel comfortable, focused, and empowered while learning in ways that work best for them.

In addition, recess games and materials will encourage developmentally appropriate play, teamwork, creativity, movement, and joyful exploration. Through play, first graders build friendships, communication skills, confidence, and positive school experiences. Your support will help create a classroom filled with kindness, comfort, curiosity, and joy — a place where students feel supported, inspired, and excited to learn every single day.
