My Project

This year I'm a reading intervention teacher, and we are learning about the Science of Reading research. This research suggest using decodable readers instead of guided reading books. So this project will help me to fill my classroom library with decodable books.

These books are designed to build students reading skills by working on specific reading skills.

Some books focus on CVC words, others focus on long vowels, and still others focus on blends. These are just some of the skills the books are focused on.

My students are struggling readers and they often feel like they are reading baby books. They get frustrated that they can't read chapter books yet. In this project there are decodable chapter books that focus on individual word patterns. These book will help them to feel like they can read like their peers, and their peers will not know that they are reading decodable books.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
