Bird Field Guides - Western North America

My students need seven Western North America Bird Field Guides.

The local Audubon Society sends over 20 volunteers a year to work with our students helping in the identification of local species that utilize the habitat and surrounding areas. The volunteers, who have never worked with this age group, are so excited to be working with the students. They are amazed at their enthusiasm and excitement when they correctly identify a species in the field. Through the work of these volunteers and the energy of our students we have established a joint project with the Audubon, National Park Service and our school restoring native habitat in a local National Park Property. While we restore habitat at the park, the students also work with the Audubon to study how the birds utilize the plants and habitat at the park. The field guides we have been using are getting heavy use from the hundreds of students practicing with them in the classroom and then using them in the field. Some of them already need to be replaced. This new version I am requesting is smaller and contains species that typically will be found in our local park (and in their neighborhoods). This will help the students identify the species faster and with greater accuracy by having a more compact guide in the real world experience. Your support will reach hundreds of children over the years and allow them to have an experience that not only allows them to grow and learn but also helps community members who volunteer to work with them have a new appreciation and optimism about the future caretakers of our National Parks.
