My Students

I am excited to have my super-energetic first graders in my classroom this year! My students come from very rural areas and from homes with low, socioeconomic backgrounds and oftentimes have low expectations for their future. They will not feel like that in my classroom!

This diverse group of sixteen students are eager to learn and grow.

Despite their differences in their educational, ethnic, and other backgrounds, we will use a variety of learning strategies to reach our objectives of self-confidence, learning independence, and organizational skills.

Staying organized and making good choices are not only skills that are beneficial in the classroom, they are also essential life skills. In first grade I hope to help my students simply be good people.

My Project

“For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned”- Benjamin Franklin. I want to “earn hours” for my students to teach them simply to be good people all year long. To that end, it is imperative that we teach them responsibility, self-confidence, organizational skills, and the value of kindness. For this project I am focusing on organization skills.

These storage carts would allow my students to gain independence and organizational skills while providing a more safe and healthy environment.

COVID protocols have made it challenging to share materials where the supplies are minimal in our Title I school.

If the students had their own storage drawers at their table to keep their materials separate, it would help meet our district-wide COVID guidelines.
