My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds, but I love the way we are able to all connect together through books, stories, and learning. My students love making connections with each other and literature, and they love expressing their opinions and thoughts. They aren't afraid of diving deep into things they don't know or understand (yet). They support one another. They ask good questions. They seek good answers.

Some of my students have only lived here for a few weeks, and I admire their bravery in trying to learn a new language and make new friends.

My students make others feel included and comfortable, and I love how English and reading gives students opportunities to learn about lives and backgrounds different than their own.

My Project

These materials will allow students to experience lives and experiences through new eyes and lenses. I am wanting to build my classroom library so students can not only read, but so they can see that reading can be a social and interactive experience! I am wanting to get literature circle group books so students can read and discuss with their peers. Not only do books allow students to develop empathy and understanding for others, but so does discussing stories and events with those who come from different backgrounds.

In seventh grade, students are expected to read a variety of texts with a variety of complexities at their grade level.

The books I have selected will allow my students to do so, while developing compassion and knowledge of people and cultures all over the world.
