These materials will allow students to experience lives and experiences through new eyes and lenses. I am wanting to build my classroom library so students can not only read, but so they can see that reading can be a social and interactive experience! I am wanting to get literature circle group books so students can read and discuss with their peers. Not only do books allow students to develop empathy and understanding for others, but so does discussing stories and events with those who come from different backgrounds. In seventh grade, students are expected to read a variety of texts with a variety of complexities at their grade level. The books I have selected will allow my students to do so, while developing compassion and knowledge of people and cultures all over the world.
