A Comfy, Cozy Classroom During COVID

Help me give my students a comfy, cozy classroom for digital and in-person learning!

My Students

Who would've has guessed that when this group of third graders began kindergarten in 2018, their short time in education would be one for the history books! Between first and third grades, these students have experienced a complete school shut-down, various quarantines, mask mandates, social distancing, and continually alternate between in-school and online learning.

I am continually in awe of these 19 special students, who, in the midst of chaos and uncertainty, have remained happy and resilient.

Many of my students face personal challenges (food insecurity, an incarcerated parent, divorce, multiple families living in one home, low-income households) which have been compounded by the complex challenges of the pandemic. Yet, they come to school each day with a smile on their faces, excited to learn. Many of them have been placed on quarantine or in isolation, some multiple times, during the past 6-months of school. They bounce back and forth between online and in-person learning. Despite these continuous disruptions to routine, these kids keep working hard and support one another through their kindness. They are an outstanding example to students and adults alike.

My Project

The COVID-19 pandemic has effected all of us. Students, teachers and parents’ worlds were turned upside down when schools shut down under quarantine. In order to meet the health and safety guidelines that have been put in place, many of the normal routines in school have been disrupted. These items are meant to provide a more comfortable and supportive physical environment in my classroom.

It has been my priority to make school a safe and inviting place for all of my students.

Providing these items to my students would give them a more comfortable place to learn and grow. I have many active students who struggle sitting in their seats (this is the case every year, but even more so this year). The wobble seats, ottomans and floor cushions provide students with the ability to have more flexibility in their seating options. The padded headphones and wireless computer mice would allow students to more easily manipulate and interact with the online learning they are doing at school and, very often this year, at home.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
