Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend my resource reading class in order to bring up their reading levels to be more successful in school, and in life. Most of my students have a hard time staying focused in school while in class, my goal is to make them feel that they are in a safe learning environment where they don't have to feel judged.
I teach at a Title One middle school in an urban neighborhood.
Seventy four percent of our students qualify for free or reduced rate lunch. Many come from very technology-poor homes. My students love technology and topics where they can discuss issues and express opinions. My school lacks the technology to meet my students’ needs and I am concerned that their lack of exposure will not prepare them for the technology fluency requirements in high school. My goal is to create a classroom environment where students are motivated by technology to improve their literacy and communication skills.
My Project
The best way to get lost is in a good book, and my students are struggling readers at different levels. Almost all of my students pick books based on the covers, and I want to show them it's not the outside of the book that matters but what's on the inside that matters. I feel they can relate to the character in the story, "A Child Called It", and make real life connections to better understand the Plot of a story. This story will help my students get a better understanding of a Biography, they will be able to discuss how the character feels, and what similarities they have with the character.
My students are struggling readers, and they are reading below grade level by several grade levels.
I am working with them to build up their confidence in their reading ability. My goal is to create a classroom environment where students are motivated to improve their literacy and communication skills, by finding the love to read.
