21st Century Classroom

My students need a document camera to easily show learning materials to the entire class, and they need speakers to make video presentations audible.

My Students

The days of overhead transparencies are over. Today, competitive classrooms use document readers to project what the teacher needs to share in an instant. Having this technology enables teachers to demonstrate countless lessons most efficiently. Speakers are also vital to clearly hear audio.

My 4th grade students come from a variety of backgrounds.

The majority are African American, a third are Hispanic, and the rest are white, Japanese, and Ethiopian. They are full of energy and enthusiasm, especially when learning through the use of technology. They LOVE our new website and classroom blog! Their academic abilities range from advanced to far below grade level. Our school is a Title 1 school in Los Angeles, California. Title 1 refers to a school with a high percentage of students from low income families.

My Project

I am requesting two important items that will each make a large, positive impact on my students' learning. First, I am requesting a basic document camera/reader. It will sit on my desk and transmit a large image to be projected onto the whiteboard. (I have a projector that it will connect to.) The image will be anything I put under the camera. For instance, I will be able to project a paragraph that needs editing. A student volunteer or I can edit on the one paper while the entire class sees it on the board. It's also great for guiding students through directions, showing art or other images, and more. The second important resource that we need are speakers for my laptop computer. I have tried playing educational audio and video clips including Brain Pop video about magnetism and Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous speech, but the computer's built-in speakers are not loud enough. The kids were frustrated because they could barely hear. These audio and video clips bring

This basic technology will make a world of difference for the students in my classroom.

The impact of technology in the classroom is huge. Technology is highly engaging for students and aids student learning across all subject areas.
