  • Help Me Read to Succeed

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Even though I shared some photos of students choosing their books, I wish you could see how much they treasure the book they selected. I see students sitting in the hallways in the morning reading their books. They walk down the halls in the afternoon reading their books. And it brings such joy to my heart when I walk into their classroom and they have their book on the desk so they can read it as soon as they finish their classwork.

One of the biggest ways to improve reading skills is increasing the amount of time students spend reading independently. Your gift has allowed them to have access to their own reading material whenever they wish to read. Your generosity allowed students to choose their own books, which is important, because students become more engaged with reading material that they choose for themselves.

Last week, one young girl approached me and asked me when she could come choose another book because she gave the book she finished to her little sister. That has inspired me to do another project like this in the near future. I can't thank you enough for helping children learn to love reading.”

  • It's News to Me

    Funded Dec 26, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My English language learners love having fun, interesting magazines to read. Exciting topics, like sharks and jellyfish motivate my students to spend more time reading.

This subscription allows my students to read newspapers alone or with a partner. This subscription is also digital so students can log in and read these articles at home with their parents. Each newspaper edition also has comprehension activities that can be used with the whole class on the promethean board, or individually on student laptops.

My students enjoy reading these fun, informative magazines and completing the interactive activities that enhance each article. Thank you so much for bringing this exciting resource to my students.”

  • Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for generous donations. My class received a subscription to scholastic News. The great thing about this resource is that students can use it for digital or in person learning. The students really like to come to the promethean board and select answers for questions related to the articles. I can display the pictures and text so the whole class can see. Best of all, we get the actual paper news articles. The students take those home and enjoy reading articles with their families. Your gift has helped make learning to read in English fun and engaging.”

  • Oh Say, Can You See?

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

The 2019-2020 school year challenged teachers, students, and families in ways we had never before experienced. In our state, students left school for spring break and did not return until the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year in August. However, some families chose to continue with virtual learning models for their children as the pandemic raged on.

I had never taught students in a virtual setting before. Teaching young students was especially challenging because they have short attention spans, and do best with hands-on learning experiences. Your donations allowed me to use the document camera to interact with my students while they were safe at home. I was able to read books to them and model how to track each word while reading. I was able to model writing for them in a way they could see and understand.

Your donation allowed families to be involved in their child's education as parents watched what their children were learning. This enabled parents to better help their child during distance learning lessons, and allowed me to teach students simultaneously at home and school as the need continues.”

  • Let's Get Moving!

    Funded Jan 21, 2021

The children were so excited when the package arrived with jump ropes, hula hoops, and scooter boards. They couldn't wait for recess time to try out all their new fitness equipment. Students were able to play together while maintaining social distance.

Children jumped rope beside their friends. They learned to turn the rope together while their friends jumped in the middle. Children challenged each other to scooter board races. They laughed together as they learned how to hula hoop perfecting their moves and trying to add more and more hoops.

Your generous donation changed our recess time for the rest of the year. We were even able to clean and share the equipment with the other kindergarten classes, at their recess times, increasing the positive impact of your donation. Thank you for supporting students during a difficult time.”

  • Now Hear This! Help Us Learn With Headphones

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

Now that students have to maintain a safe social distance in the classroom, headphones allow me to virtually meet with small groups of students and work on a shared skill or read a book together without disturbing students who are working on another task. Students also use the headphones as they work on individualized math and reading lessons on the computer.

We practice also having zoom and google meets so the students will be prepared to use this technology at home should the need arise. Headphones make this possible by reducing background noise and audio feedback from having several computers in the same room.

My students were very excited to have these headphones because some students only had earbuds that don't stay put in their little ears and some students had none at all. Your donation has helped them cope with the new challenges of using technology to learn in the early grades.”

  • Together We Read, Together We Rise

    Funded Aug 5, 2020

I can't thank you enough for your generous donation to our classroom. The books that were purchased for my students help them learn to love reading. Every day we practice reading books to ourselves. My young students will first learn about reading by "reading the pictures" to notice details and what is happening in the story. Comics are the perfect venue for telling a detailed story with pictures.

My students also received a parent's guide about the reading skills that can be taught through comics. Students were excited to take the book home and share it with their parents. Students in my class will also have the opportunity to check out their favorite book from my class library and take it home to share with parents and siblings.

There is no joy quite like discovering a new book to love. It is always a challenge to find books that engage my students and explain complex topics on a level they can understand. You helped me meet that challenge by funding this project. So again, I thank you.”

  • Criss-Cross Applesauce: Circle Time Space

    Funded Dec 12, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. Our class spends a great deal of time sitting together on the rug, listening to stories, having discussions and even dancing around to let our wiggles out. It’s going to be great to have a nice new, clean, colorful rug to use for all those times.”

  • We Read to Succeed!

    Funded Mar 15, 2019

Your generous donations make it easier to teach small group reading lessons. Each title has 6 copies. We sit together and look at the pictures. Then we find words we know in the books. This collection has books that follow a sentence pattern (i.e. I see a...., We can...). This repetition helps young students gain confidence as they are learning to read. Students learn to match words they see to words they say. They learn that the words match the pictures. These books help build a foundation of skill students will use to tackle harder reading tasks that come later. Students can read these books over and over again by themselves or with a partner.

The books arrived in time to be used by some struggling readers in last years class. I am also using them now at the beginning of kindergarten with a new class. You have provided resources that will benefit students for years to come. Thank you so much for your support.”

  • Now I Know My ABCs

    Funded Mar 10, 2016

My students and I were so excited to receive the new materials for our class. I wish you would've seen their bright little faces as we opened the box. They couldn't wait to start using the tablet and playdough stampers. Literacy centers have become a highlight of the day's activities. Students are stamping the alphabet in order, stamping their names and their friends' names. They are stamping sight words and words they find around the room. The learning tablet is also in high demand. I've had to start a chart so they can rotate fairly and all get a chance to use it. Kids are using the magnetic letter building set to make letters in their names, letters they haven't mastered yet and even building two and three letter words that they can read.

Your generosity has sparked their excitement and love of phonics. The skills they learn by using these literacy centers are the first steps to becoming life-long readers .Thank you again for your kindness and support.”
