  • Bring Neil Gaiman's Acclaimed Sandman to a Library

    Funded Nov 9, 2010

I'd like to thank you all very much for your contribution to my classroom's lending library. This project was one entirely inspired by how much my students had been enjoying the novels of Neil Gaiman. When I mentioned my own love of Gaiman's award-winning Sandman series, their eyes lit up and I knew adding these books to our class would be a wonderful prospect.

Genre books such as these are not a priority for most public schools. With budget cuts being what they are, having the opportunity to share a unique medium like graphic novels with eager young learners is exciting. I thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to enjoy these wonderful books.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • Lights, Camera, Action! Film History Comes Alive!

    Funded Dec 1, 2010

A quick word of thanks for those donors who so generously gave to my classroom! I have been fielding questions about a film class offering for years; teenagers have a genuine passion for film, but many know very little about its' history. While a film class has been on my wish list for a long time, I sadly have not had the funds to make that wish a reality. Your donations have moved a film class that much closer to reality for my students.

I am so excited to share some of these films with my kids in an academic environment- the lyrical beauty of Akira Kurosawa's films, the gentle comedy of Billy Wilderi, and the childlike majesty of Steven Spielberg. Though classics, many of my students have never seen these films anywhere.

Your donation will provide these students, many of whom are interested in studying film in college, a firm basis of the history of cinema. Many thanks.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • College Bound Students Need New Reading Opportunities!

    Funded Oct 25, 2010

Many thanks indeed for your generous contributions to our classroom's lending library! Passion for independent reading is the cornerstone of every young person's education, and your thoughtful support of my students will ensure that they become life-long lovers of the written word. By empowering these young people with choice, you are making a real difference in the way that they experience, enjoy, and learn from literature. The new books have become instantly popular with my classes, with students signing up on waiting lists to enjoy reading books about which they are excited! Your contribution has really made a difference in the lives of my students.”

  • Create Lifelong Readers With Graphic Novels!

    Funded Oct 7, 2010

I would like to sincerely thank all of you for supporting my classroom in giving us brand new books to read. Our classroom lending library has become a vital part of our exploration of literature, and your donations give my students the chance to experience new genres of books that they might otherwise not get the chance to enjoy.

Our school's library has been without funding for the past five years, and they do not focus on specific genres like graphic literature. Donations like these that enable students to fully immerse themselves in the world of literature. We thank you so much for your consideration of public education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • College Bound Students Need New Reading Opportunities!

    Funded Jul 15, 2010

I would like to thank each and every one of your for your thoughtful donation to my classroom's lending library. Our high school's media center has been without state funding for almost ten years and the addition of current, new, and exciting books are always welcomed by my students. Your donation will ensure that these young readers are engaged and passionate about reading; this passion will carry them far as they continue on in their education. These books will be a part of our classroom for many years to come, and we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • Help Us Organize With A Bookcase!

    Funded Jun 28, 2010

I would like to thank you all so much for your generous donation to my classroom. My students are motivated and engaged readers of all types of literature, but for the longest time our books lived in piles on wheeled carts and crammed together on one lone bookcase. Your thoughtfulness has enabled my classroom to become a place where readers understand the value of a good book simply by looking at the shining example our classroom lending library extends to them. Your donation will be a vital part of our classroom for many years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • Pushing College Bound Readers and Writers With New Books!

    Funded Mar 13, 2010

I would like to take a moment to thank you all for your generosity toward my classroom's lending library. Students can only become masterful and literate readers if they are exposed to literature that appeals to their interests and world experience. Your donations make it possible for many of my young learners to gain that experience through reading across a variety of genres. I cannot express how excited my students are about these books; many give up their lunch periods to peruse my bookshelves. Thank you so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

    Funded Feb 11, 2010

I have been fielding questions about a film class offering for years; teenagers have a genuine passion for film, but many know very little about its' history. While a film class has been on my wish list for a long time, I sadly have not had the funds to make that wish a reality. Your donations have moved a film class that much closer to reality for my students.

I am so excited to share some of these films with my kids in an academic environment- the inspired word play and lunacy of the Marx Brothers, the expressionistic nightmare of The Cabinet of Dr. Calagari, and the hopeful patriotism of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. Though classics, many of my students have never seen these films anywhere. Your donation will provide these students, many of whom are interested in studying film in college, a firm basis of the history of cinema. Many thanks.”

  • College Bound Students Need New Reading Opportunities!

    Funded Feb 21, 2010

A brief word of thanks for donating new reading materials to my classroom's lending library! I find that students are truly engaged and invested in their education when they are empowered with choice. Your donation of these terrific new books for our classroom's lending library will empower these young people to seek out new genres of literature that they may not have otherwise experienced. The more students read, the more confidence they get in their abilities to read. I am so excited to share these materials with my students and I know they thank you so much for thinking of them.”

  • "Essential" Titles Engage High School Readers!

    Funded Mar 5, 2010

I would like to thank all the donors who so generously gave to this project. One of the greatest challenges facing public school English teachers is how to engage our students with literature that is exciting and rigorous. Many students in my classes are well below accepted high school reading levels; exposing them to new and interesting books is paramount if those young people are going to continue on to be the leaders and thinkers of tomorrow. Using graphic novels in the classroom to get those students excited about the possibilities of reading and writing has been a wonderful experience, and your donations will help in this endeavor. Many thanks.”
