  • Create Life Long Readers with Graphic Novels!

    Funded Jan 15, 2010

I would like to thank the donors greatly for their help with expanding my classroom's graphic novel library. The reading materials donated to my classroom's lending library have done a world of good for my low level readers. These are the students who need extra help and attention when it comes to making them fluent and attentive to the world of literature. Many times students such as these need extra help, but feel self-conscious about asking for that help. By giving them access to graphic novels, students get some of that help by using the images to reinforce the words that they are reading.

Our school's library has been without funding for the past five years, and they do not focus on specific genres like graphic literature. Donations like these that enable students to fully immerse themselves in the world of literature. We thank you so much for your consideration of public education.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • Guiding Low-Level Readers To College With New Books!

    Funded Dec 22, 2009

Let me take a moment to thank you all for your wonderful donations to my classroom. The reading materials donated to my classroom's lending library have done a world of good for my low level readers. These are the students who need extra help and attention when it comes to making them fluent and attentive to the world of literature. Your donations have given them reading materials that are varied and interesting. Indeed, students who are loathe to pick up a book have been seen gathered around our bookcases, perusing exciting new avenues of reading.

Our school's library has been without funding for the past five years. It is donations like these that enable students to fully immerse themselves in the world of literature. Your donation has gone to such wonderful use; you have the heartfelt thanks of myself and all my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • Why Don't You Take a Picture? It'll Last Longer!

    Funded Dec 1, 2009

When I first began teaching at this school, I would hear teachers talk about how wonderful our student newspaper used to be. Unfortunately, budget cuts had effectively ended that program for our students. When I began a campaign to restart our newspaper online, I was greeted with a wealth of excitement from our students and faculty.

This letter is a small thank you for helping bring our student newspaper into the 21st century. With this digital camera, our students are able to capture moments, bring them back to the "newsroom" and write about them with intelligence and depth. Having access to new technology like this inspires them to write more- I see half a dozen proposals for articles cross my desk every week, contingent on students being able to sign out the digital camera.

This has reinvigorated our student newspaper and I can only say thank you. Your donation is so greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • Create Life Long Readers with Graphic Novels!

    Funded Nov 9, 2009

A small word of thanks for those who donated so generously to my classroom's lending library. My students are engaged and curious learners, but our high school's media center has been without funding for the last five years. This means that while many of my students are interested in reading, the options available to them are somewhat out of date. By giving my students access to exciting new reading materials, you are inspiring them to new heights in their education.

This is especially true for my students who are not reading on their grade level. Graphic novels offer students who read at a low level distinct advantages. The images offer them extra support in their reading. A student who might feel self-conscious taking an on their reading level book out feel no shame in reading comic books... and are advancing their fluency with every page.

Donations such as these help our students become all that they can be. Your help is so greatly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • High Interest Books for Low Level Readers

    Funded Oct 1, 2009

I cannot express how grateful I am that you have taken the time to support my classroom by giving my students new, interesting, and lively books to read during our sustained silent reading. The books that you have donated to my students have become the talk of the school; I not only have a waiting list for novels in my own classroom, but I am asked by students in other English classes when they might be able to borrow some of the "cool new" books! Kids are excited about reading and they have you to thank.

Our school is full of teachers dedicated to bringing literature alive for young people, but we do not always have the resources available to us to make this a reality. Our school's library and media center has not had significant funding for half a decade. Being able to bring new materials to my kids will always be of value. Your investment in my students will ensure academic success.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce

  • Let's Give Kids Some Recent Books

    Funded Jun 8, 2009

It's with a tremendous amount of gratitude that I write this letter. Working in a school where regular funding for new books is a rarity, I do not get the opportunity to share the exciting world of literature outside of textbooks very often. The books I received for my classroom's lending library are so popular, that I have a waiting list... not only of students in my classes, but students in other grades who are interested in reading new and exciting books!

I can see a difference already in my students' attitude toward independent reading. Your donation makes a difference in my classroom everyday and it is truly appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pearce
