My Students

It's hard to get excited about learning when all you have is boring old pens and pencils. A little color goes a long way to brighten up students' attitudes and work.

I teach English Language Arts to a great group of 6th graders in NY.

My kids range from English Language Learners to kids with learning disabilities to kids who read on a 10th grade level. It's tough to get all of them engaged and working on a lesson.

My Project

If I had highlighters, smelly markers, and stencils for the kids to use in classwork and on projects, their interest would soar. It is really amazing to see a kid who stares at the floor during a lesson turn into the most conscientious student when a little color is added to the day. My kids will use these markers to make charts about characters, plot events, problems and solutions in books, and many more ideas. The highlighters will be used to diagram sentences and focus on key ideas in questions and passages. The stencils will be used on projects to make them look professional.

Sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference in the classroom.

A little color, a little highlighting and voila a student is born! It's a wonderful thing. Your kindness will make this happen.
