My Students

Two months of the school year is devoted to test prep, and it is a boring two months. The kids' eyes glaze over when I walk into the room. I've heard more than a few groans during this time too.

I teach 6th grade English Language Arts to a great group of ethnically diverse, economically disadvantaged kids in NYC.

Unfortunately most of my students are reading on a 4th or 5th grade level, which makes my job difficult. Getting them to learn literary terms and characteristics is hard. Getting them to remember them is extremely difficult.

My Project

My kids and I need these set of 5 educational video games to help review literary terms and strategies that are necessary for them to know on classroom and state tests. The games are based on famous game shows like Family Feud, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? Since the kids already know how to play these games, we will be ready to go as soon as I create the questions and answers. Imagine how much fun they'll have competing with each other to name a characteristic of historical fiction, or naming the climax of Twilight? This is way better than using worksheets and paper quizzes to review key concepts. My kids will be learning and having fun while doing it!
