My Students

Do you ever feel like your personally responsible for the deforestation of the planet because of copies you make for work? I do, and it kills me every time I need to make 75 copies of an assignment, so all of my students can have their own to work on.

I teach English Language Arts to a great group of 6th graders in NYC.

My kids are sweet and eager to learn, but most of them come from economically disadvantaged homes. Asking their parents to buy anything other than notebooks, pens, and pencils, usually doesn't work.

My Project

One alternative to making thousands upon thousands of copies every year, is to use white boards in the classroom. My kids can write their answer to a multiple choice question on a whiteboard and hold it up for immediate feedback. This saves time and paper, and lets the kids know if they're on the right track. Unfortunately, the markers are expensive and dry out quickly. So, I need 3 class sets of markers, a class set of erasers, and cleaning fluid to help my kids be more environmentally friendly. Then, we would be able to prepare for tests, practice answering multiple choice questions, and work on spelling/vocabulary without paper.

Your kindness will make it possible for my students to reduce the amount of paper we use in the classroom and make our classroom more interactive at the same time!

And hopefully my students will be inspired to reduce the amount of paper they use in other areas.
