What A Great Bag!

I teach ELA (English Language Arts) to a group of 75 fantastic 6th graders. Unfortunately most of them read on a 4th to 5th grade level, making my job more difficult. One of the requirements for promotion is that each child must complete a writing portfolio demonstrating that they can produce 4 writing pieces on a 6th grade level. This is always an uphill battle, as writing is very difficult for many of my students. Many of them are ESL students, and don't even had a complete command of the English language yet. One of the writing pieces they have to complete is a procedural or how to. I'm tired of getting recipes that are incomplete at best, or how to ride a bike. I want to have the students complete a project in class, and then use it to write their how to. That's where you come in. The tote bags and fabric markers will be used to create their reusable shopping bag. As they preview the project they will write an introduction and materials list. Then as they complete each step, they will write in down. When they are done with the project they will have an environmentally friendly bag and a procedural written to 6th grade standards. Your help will enable a great group of kids to move successfully to being competent writers.
