My Project

As a speech-language pathologist working with children with autism, I see every day how important it is to meet my students where they are and provide them with the support they need to learn, communicate, and feel successful at school. In the past, I created a Donors Choose project to provide snacks for my students, and it was a huge success! The donations made such a meaningful difference for my students and allowed me to have a consistent supply of snacks available throughout the school year. These snacks serve an important purpose in our therapy room. Some of my students arrive at school without having had enough to eat, so having snacks available helps make sure they have something to eat when they are hungry. Snacks can also be especially valuable for students with autism who have very limited interests or preferred foods.

For some of my students, a preferred snack can be an important motivator and positive reinforcement that encourages them to participate, communicate, try something new, or complete a challenging activity.

As a speech-language pathologist, I work on communication skills throughout the school day, including requesting, making choices, following directions, and social interaction. Having preferred snacks available gives my students additional opportunities to practice these skills in meaningful, motivating ways.

Because my previous snack project was so successful and benefited my students so greatly, I am hoping to replenish our supply and continue providing this support throughout the school year. Your donation will help me give my students something as simple as a snack, while also helping create opportunities for communication, learning, independence and success. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference for my students!
