It turns out, many of my students who are struggling in the classroom in any given moment has to do with an empty belly! As I move forward with the tools I have purchased, I am very excited to teach children a way that they can calm their body and focus on a task.\r\n\r\nAt this time, the students only see the tools. They don't know what they are about or even if they are for them. The first step is the most important. I have to solidify that these items are tools not toys. \r\n\r\n Next, I will teach them patterns that will help regulate their body. Why does that work? Our bodies innate response is to seek out patterns to help us stay regulated. In the womb, the fetus is using the beating of the mom's heart to remain calm. When it is born, as adults, the natural thing we do with a crying child is to rock them. These are both examples of patterns and how the body seeks them out to calm itself. \r\n\r\nI cannot wait to see the results! Based on the training I did this summer, I know this is going to work for my kids and it will add another tool to their toolbox when they become dysregulated.","fullyFundedDate":1755751454406,"projectUrl":"project/mindful-motion-ball-and-bags-to-support/9474048/","projectTitle":"Mindful Motion: Ball and Bags to Support Focus and Regulation","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kusel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1432605_orig.jpg?crop=1875,1875,x0,y156&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723163092590","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1432605"},{"teacherId":993162,"projectId":9159232,"letterContent":"It will be so nice starting the school year with materials that the students will use to help them learn new things.
