Flexible seating has many benefits. Our classroom already has some comfortable seating, as well a standing table and a shorter table. I would like to add more options for my students, so that all students are able to find a place that works for their learning and working style. Flexible seating allows students to make a choice for what they feel is best for their learning, and it gives them a feeling of control. I would like to add additional options to our classroom - rolling stools for traditional tables and seating for lower tables or sitting around the room. I would also like to add a new and larger rug to allow students to be more comfortable on the ground while we learn as a whole group. A very important benefit to flexible seating is that is builds community. This is extremely valued in our classroom. It encourages students to share and respect common space and supplies, take turns and try different seating options. It enhances collaboration in the classroom, as our classroom is set up for students to work in small groups or in pairs. There are so many benefits to flexible seating, and I'm excited to see how this helps students learn and cooperate with one another in a more home-like space. We spend so much time at school, and it really is a home away from home.
