My students use their notebooks every day to practice writing, build their English language skills, and share their ideas. When they first received their new supplies, they were excited to have materials of their own and eager to begin writing. The erasers have also become a wonderful reminder that mistakes are a natural and important part of learning. My students are learning that they can erase, revise, try again, and keep going without being afraid of getting something wrong.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students become more willing to take risks in their writing. Instead of worrying about making a mistake, they are beginning to focus on expressing their ideas and showing what they know. We are currently using our notebooks to continue developing our writing skills while learning new vocabulary and practicing complete sentences. Our next step is to build on these skills by writing longer pieces and revising our work to make our ideas clearer. My students were so excited to use the new phonemic awareness tools and writing spacers. The hands-on materials have made literacy practice more engaging and meaningful for them. During our phonemic awareness activities, students have been using the dry-erase tools to segment, blend, and manipulate sounds in words. Being able to physically work with the sounds has helped make these skills more concrete, especially for my multilingual learners who are continuing to build their English language skills. I have loved seeing their excitement as they successfully hear and work with sounds that can sometimes feel tricky. They also love holding up the whiteboard paddles to proudly show their work. \r\n\r\nThe writing spacers have also become a helpful tool during our writing time. Students use them to remind themselves to leave spaces between their words, giving them a simple way to become more independent as writers. It has been wonderful to see students take ownership of these tools and feel proud when they notice their own progress. Your generosity has provided my students with opportunities to practice, take risks, and build confidence as growing readers and writers. I am especially excited about the opportunities these materials will give my multilingual learners to use their imagination while practicing vocabulary, storytelling, and conversation in a fun and natural way.\r\n\r\nI recently had the opportunity to give a tour of the school and my classroom to an incoming kindergartener and her family as they visited the school to help her prepare for her transition to my school. As soon as she saw the dollhouse, her face lit up! She was so excited to explore it and immediately connected with the little wooden girl doll, saying that she was \"like me.\" That sweet moment reminded me how important it is for children to see themselves represented in their classroom. I cannot wait to see the conversations, stories, and imaginative play that happen when all of my students discover these new materials.
