I was able to recruit about twenty third through 5th graders to learn how to crochet. I had 19 girls and 1 boy student pick up a hook and I got them hooked on crochet! They enjoyed it so much, I actually had to prohibit crocheting during class time. Crochet club took place before and after school, two days a week for about 10 weeks. \r\n\r\nStudents loved the variety of yarn and that they all had access to several hook sizes. I was able to teach them single chain stitch first and many just ran with their skills. They used YouTube tutorials to work on all sorts of projects themselves. This was the best kind of learning because they weren't reliant on me. The end projects themeselves were modest. Students made: little pet snakes, mouse blankets, and chain necklaces. \r\n\r\nThe program was such a hit that I even convinced the summer school director to pick it up as an enrichment offering for our middle schoolers. I'm excited to continue their pathway of crafting on their own. Crocheting is such a satisfying personal hobby and your generosity allowed me to give that gift to many children. We have an entire cabinet filled with snacks as well as an additional filing cabinet with the draws filled. The kids have been enjoying them a lot and it has been a great tool to help them calm down and regualted their bodies throughout the day. \r\nThe amount of happiness in my classroom has been amazing and it is all thanks to you.
