Your generosity has already brought meaningful change to the four to six students who use our classroom daily, as well as to others who visit and share the space.\r\n\r\nWhen the crash pad, liquid-filled stepping stones, light table, and touch light-up pads arrived, my students were thrilled. One child who often struggles with transitions immediately sank into the crash pad, using it as a safe space to calm down. Another carefully stepped across the liquid-filled stones, smiling as the colors shifted under their feet. The light table and touch light-up pads quickly became favorites, drawing in students who typically need extra encouragement to join group activities.\r\n\r\nThese materials now anchor our calm-down area, giving students a place to regulate their emotions and rejoin lessons when they are ready. During reading and math, sensory breaks with the new items help students stay focused and engaged. In one project, students used the light table with colored tiles to practice patterns and sequencing, blending calming sensory input with core academic skills.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to build daily \"sensory choice\" routines where students can select from the new tools to meet their own needs. This step fosters independence, self-regulation, and confidence—skills that extend far beyond our classroom walls.\r\n\r\nYour gift has created moments of joy, peace, and learning. These resources have already made a noticeable difference for my students and for other children across the school who join us in our space.\r\n\r\nThe four students in my Life Skills classroom, each with their own learning needs, now use these materials daily. They play instruments and use ribbons during movement breaks, music time, and small group lessons. One highlight was creating a \"sensory band\" where each student chose an instrument or ribbon to play. Together, they learned to keep rhythm, take turns, and connect as a group. Other elementary students who joined in discovered the same joy, which created a natural opportunity for inclusion.\r\n\r\nAnother favorite moment was our \"sound and movement story.\" As we read a picture book, students used the instruments and ribbons to act out the characters and actions. The drum became a stomping giant, and the ribbons moved like wind across the room. This project turned reading into something active and meaningful. Students who often have trouble focusing were engaged and eager to participate, making the story come alive in a new way.\r\n\r\nTheir excitement was clear from the very first day the boxes arrived. Faces lit up as they pulled out drums, shakers, and colorful ribbons. A child who usually has a hard time joining group activities was the first to start playing an egg shaker, encouraging the others to follow. Another student, who struggles with transitions, held a ribbon for comfort the rest of the day. It was clear right away that these materials met both sensory and emotional needs.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue to use these tools to support lessons on rhythm, sequencing, and patterns. Students will begin by copying simple rhythms and then create their own, combining music and math skills in a way that feels fun and approachable. The ribbons and props will also play a role in our social-emotional lessons, giving students calming strategies they can carry with them throughout the day.\r\n\r\nThis donation impacts more than just the four students in my classroom. It also benefits peers from across the elementary school who visit our room. These tools help create shared experiences that build confidence, encourage regulation, and bring joy to every child who uses them.\r\n\r\nYour support has given my students the chance to express themselves, learn through multiple senses, and find pride in their abilities. The joy and focus I have seen since receiving your gift show how meaningful these tools truly are. Thank you for helping my students grow in such a positive and lasting way.","fullyFundedDate":1748368043593,"projectUrl":"project/moving-and-learning-music-and-movement/9302667/","projectTitle":"Moving and Learning: Music and Movement for Life Skills Stars!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hochmeister special education","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4909274_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746564232951","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4909274"},{"teacherId":3856258,"projectId":9123913,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support and generosity.
