Do you remember playing classic board games with your friends or siblings as a child? Some of my best memories are those games of Headache or Trouble where I could send my brother back "home". It was through these games that we were able to learn lessons in turn taking, fairness, and sportmanship along with building social language skills. We laughed, we fought, we played and we TALKED! It seems like kids are spending more and more time on screens and less time purposefully interacting with others. This project aims to reconnect kids through game play as a way to foster meaningful social communication. Important life skills, like turn-taking, problem-solving and sportsmanship are skills that can be taught through game play and face-to-face interaction. My students will learn these valuable skills in a fun, engaging environment.
