The pop-up game has been an especially big hit and is a great motivator during our sessions. We use the toys and games to work on a variety of skills, including taking turns, following directions, requesting items, answering questions, describing objects, expanding vocabulary, and practicing speech sounds. Having engaging activities to incorporate into our lessons helps make speech practice feel more like play while still allowing us to work toward each student's individual communication goals.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I am excited to continue finding new ways to incorporate these materials into our speech and language activities. Having these brand-new, tactile resources made them feel incredibly special and excited to dive into our math units.\r\n\r\nWe have been using these materials daily to bring abstract math concepts to life. Recently, during a lesson on place value, the manipulatives provided students with a visual representation of the place value chart. Students were able to physically build numbers using the base-ten blocks and see how each digit represents a different value depending on its position. This hands-on experience helped make an abstract concept more concrete and allowed students to better understand the relationship between ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands. The manipulatives also gave students a way to explain and show their mathematical thinking rather than simply memorizing place value rules. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead these resources will continue to be the cornerstone of our daily math workshops. We will use the magnetic fraction circles and bars to introduce adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.
