When I got to show them all how big these are and how much they can fit inside, they were so excited. I had one student who was telling the class all about this huge dinosaur book they had seen at the library, and they couldn't wait to check it out and put it in their book bin for read-to-self. \r\n\r\nThese kids are becoming more and more responsible every day, and using their new book bins, I get to watch students utilize the classroom library- learning how to pick the best book fit for their interests and reading level, and how to reshelve books with their spines facing out and all of the titles in the right direction. These social activities are helping both the autistic students and neurotypical students build their confidence and feel like an important member of the school community. This social group is the highlight of the week for many students. Our students are loving getting out and exploring in our rain suits. There is so much to see and do in the rain. And it is quite a scene when 30 little 4 and 5 year olds are romping around in little green frog suits. \r\n\r\nWe have just begun our Birds of Skagit unit and the kids are very engaged with the bird science kit. We use our binoculars when out for walks and the kids love spotting birds. \r\n\r\nIn a few weeks, we will have the opportunity to join with volunteers from our local Audubon to go birding at the mouth of the Skagit River. This is when we turn off all the lights and students get to read their books with the flashlights purchased with your donation.
