Because of your donations, we were able to purchase four sets of novel study books that are already making a big impact. We recently began reading The First Rule of Punk, and it has been incredible to see our students connect with the main character as she navigates her multifaceted identity and embraces her multiracial background. To make the experience even more engaging, our teaching team dressed up as punk rockers for Halloween, and the students' reactions were priceless! Your contribution has helped us create meaningful, creative connections that spark joy and deepen learning.\r\n\r\nWe are excited for all the learning ahead as the year progresses. Next up, we'll be diving into A Whale of the Wild, exploring its rich figurative language and powerful themes. These books are opening doors for our students to see themselves in stories, think critically, and develop a love for reading. Thank you for making this possible. It has quickly become the heart of our classroom, supporting small group instruction, one-on-one conferencing, and so many different types of differentiated learning. After some celebration, they began engaging in animated conversations with peers about ideas on how to play with them, what they would build, and who they would like to work with. This reaction highlighted their inclination towards collaboration and creativity, and confirmed my hope that these toys would foster both interest in STEM and cooperation with peers.\r\n\r\nDuring our purposeful play period, students actively collaborate with the new toys, showcasing teamwork and inventiveness. They have been constructing items such as houses, water bottle holders, and even custom-designed glasses for one another. This hands-on experience not only fosters their fine motor skills and spatial awareness but also strengthens their ability to work collectively, negotiate roles, and problem-solve together. Their projects reflect a blend of individual creativity and cooperative effort, illustrating the powerful impact of interactive learning tools.\r\n\r\nIt's been a pleasure watching my students engage in creative play and collaboration. Going forward, I'll try to stretch their thinking by asking questions about their creations, such as how feedback from peers can improve the product and what tests they can do to see how changes work. These activities should help spark interest in how products are produced and encourage future study.","fullyFundedDate":1746451449766,"projectUrl":"project/tiny-minds-grand-designs-stem-toys-for/9287147/","projectTitle":"Tiny Minds, Grand Designs: STEM Toys for Our Kindergarten Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Snider","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10006861_orig.jpg?crop=1938,1938,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1745723673716","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10006861"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35881","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":544,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":45,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":82.7,"schoolId":35881,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Redmond Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Redmond Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/lake-washington-school-district-414/redmond-elementary-school/35881"}
