Because of your donations, our kindergarten classroom is a much calmer, more organized, and focused place to learn.\r\n\r\nThe chair pockets are lifesavers. The kids have a special, colorful spot right on their chair for their supplies, and they love having their own little pocket. This has cut down transition times when they need to take out a book or their writing journal. Plus, the electric pencil sharpener means we always have sharp pencils, which means less frustration and fewer interruptions!\r\n\r\nThe large visual timer have been great for focus. We were working on writing stories, and one student who often gets distracted put on the noise-canceling earmuffs, set the timer, and did their work! Our discussions have been rich and moving, as they empathize and understand a character's motivation and choices. \r\n\r\nThe other things on my list: games, snacks, other classroom things, have been incredibly helpful in creating community, fun, and a sense of belonging for learners. My advisory class is mostly multi-language learners, and of many different languages, so teaching is tough. But on days when we have less to do, I pull out the games, and they have such a good time. I hear them yelling at each other in Portuguese, Spanish, and Ukrainian as they slap another uno card down.
