It was beautiful and something I will truly never forget.\r\n\r\nAs we are rounding out the school year, my students still take so much pride in this rug. They work hard to keep it clean (well, as clean as anything can really be in kindergarten.) My students love how bright and colorful it is, and adore sitting on their favorite colors. Now, they are about to move onto first grade, but I know they will continue to appreciate the positive change this had on our classroom. Right away, they started drawing their ideas and then working to turn those drawings into sentences. For many of my students, especially those learning English, this has been a game changer. Being able to draw first helps them organize their thoughts and actually feel successful during writing time instead of frustrated.\r\n\r\nWe're now using these notebooks every day, and I'm already seeing students take more risks and write more than they were before. They're labeling their pictures, writing simple sentences, and beginning to tell little stories. Next, we'll keep building on that by adding more detail and working toward stronger, more complete writing.
