3rd through 5th grade Art students will be studying about traditional Chinese watercolor techniques during the beginning of the Chinese New Year. This will raise awareness of the culture and art making practices of China. Students will see various examples of different bamboo brush paintings and watercolors. With these supplies, art students will be able to use a real bamboo brush while learning different techniques of Chinese watercolor and brush painting. After learning about the history and practicing different techniques, students will research, sketch and create their own brush painting. Students will use the bamboo brush, watercolor paper and watercolors. The subject of the final artwork will be chosen by the artist from the themes of nature, calligraphy, and animals. Completed artworks will be displayed in the hallway.
