This has been the most exciting time I've ever had teaching Shakespeare's play. Students were captivated by the vivid visuals, which made every scene come alive and kept everyone deeply engaged day after day. The graphic novel format supported my ESL students in particular, providing clear visual context for challenging language and helping them confidently follow along with the story.\r\n\r\nWith these new texts, students developed core reading skills such as analyzing character motivation, exploring theme, and understanding plot development, all while learning to annotate and discuss literature in a way that felt accessible and inviting. Many practiced making inferences by looking at the artwork alongside the dialogue, which sparked more thoughtful classroom conversations than ever before.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is now much more interactive. Students read together in small groups, annotate, and offer their own insight into the story. Several students who struggled with traditional text suddenly became class leaders, volunteering to read aloud and share their observations about character and imagery. One ESL student in particular mentioned that the visuals helped her finally \"see\" the story in her mind.\r\n\r\nThanks to these graphic novels, Romeo and Juliet isn't just a classic we \"have to get through.\" It's a living story that everyone can experience and discuss together. The energy and excitement in the room have truly been remarkable, and the books have made Shakespeare feel accessible to every learner.","fullyFundedDate":1756055705616,"projectUrl":"project/help-bring-shakespeare-to-life-for-my-st/9587089/","projectTitle":"Help Bring Shakespeare to Life for My Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Forbes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6532725_orig.png?crop=1290,1290,x0,y468&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755189056386","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6532725"},{"teacherId":8041223,"projectId":9301572,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donations, students have been able to explore the world of podcasting and expressing their ideas, as well as learning about culture and language through creative media broadcasting.
