These books are doing so much more than encouraging a love of reading — they are helping students build important literacy skills every day. As students read, they practice comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency, and critical thinking. Many of the books also introduce lessons about empathy, perseverance, friendship, and problem-solving, allowing students to make meaningful connections between stories and their own lives. Having a variety of engaging texts helps us meet students at different reading levels and interests, which is essential for building confident, motivated readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active and joyful experience. Students spend time reading independently, reading with partners, and participating in small-group instruction where we work on specific skills and strategies. We talk about characters, make predictions, ask questions, and learn how to think deeply about what we read. One of the most exciting parts of our day is seeing students eagerly discuss books with one another and recommend favorites to their classmates. The book vending machine has added an extra layer of excitement and motivation, making reading feel special and rewarding.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with these new books. Some of our more reluctant readers are now excited to pick up books because they were able to choose titles that truly interest them. Other students who already loved reading are thrilled to discover new series and authors. Watching students proudly select a book from the vending machine and immediately begin reading has been incredibly rewarding.
